Ain't no nice guy afterall

When I was young I was the nicest guy I knew
I thought I was the chosen one
But time went by and I found out a thing or two
My shine wore off as time wore on
I thought that I was living out the perfect life
But in the lonely hours when the truth begins to bite
I thought about the times when I turned my back & stalled
I ain't no nice guy after all

When I was young I was the only game in town
I thought I had it down for sure,
But time went by and I was lost in what I found
The reasons blurred, the way unsure
I thought that I was living life the only way
But as I saw that life was more than day to day
I turned around, I read the writing on the wall

I ain't no nice guy after all
I ain't no nice guy after all

In all the years you spend between your birth and death
You know there's lots of times when you should have saved your breath
It comes as quite a shock when that trip leads to a fall

I ain't no nice guy after all
I ain't no nice guy after all

Riding you to the bottom

Wow. I keep discovering bands who write amazing lyrics out of the blue. The latest surprise is Soundgarden. Here's my favorite:

"Mailman" by Soundgarden

Hello don't you know me

I'm the dirt beneath your feet

The most important fool you forgot to see

I've seen how you give it

Now I want to receive

I know that you

Would do the same for me

I'm know I'm headed for the bottom

But I'm riding you all the way

For all of your kisses turned

To spit in my face

For all that reminds me

Which is my place

For all of the times when

You made me disappear

This time I'm sure you will

Know that I'm here

I'm know I'm headed for the bottom

But I'm riding you all the way

My place was beneath you

But now I'm above

And now I send you a message

Of love

A simple remind of what

You won't see

A future so holy without me

I'm know I'm headed for the bottom

But I'm riding you all the way

Brings a smile...

Of course, like everybody, I dig "Free Bird" and "Sweet home Alabama" by them, but there are some lesser known gems by the legends of Southern Rock:

The Last Rebel
by Lynyrd Skynyrd

There's a grey horse standin' still

As a soldier climbs in the saddle for one last ride

As the rain pours off his hat

You can see the shadows of the past written in his eyes

Now the cannons are silent

His friends are all gone

Gotta put it all behind him

If he ever wants to find his way home

He's the last rebel on the road

Just a boy with his old guitar

Keeps to himself but everybody takes him wrong

But he carries on

Got a dream that will never die

Can't change him, no use in stayin' where you don't belong

Now he's rollin' down the highway

Gone too far too fast

No one will ever find him, he'll never look back

'Cause he's the last rebel

And he's all alone

He's the last rebel

His friends are all gone

He's the last rebel

The last rebel on the road

There'll never be another like him

He's the last of a dying breed

Ain't no use in tryin' to tame him

'Cause he's the last rebel

Life is beautiful

Every once in a while, you chance upon a song that defines so much of what you've been through. Nikki Sixx, of Mötley Crüe fame, started a band of his own called Sixx: AM. Their first single rocks your socks off:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDDxHIaaVk

Life is Beautiful by Sixx:AM

You can't quit until you try

You can't live until you die

You can't learn to tell the truth until you learn to lie

You can't breathe until you choke

You gotta laugh when you're the joke
It's nothing like a funeral to make you feel alive

Just open your eyes

Just open your eyes

And see that life is beautiful

Will you swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral

I know some things that you don't?I've done things that you won't

It's nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home

I was waiting for my hearse

What came next was so much worse

It took a funeral to make me feel alive

Just open your eyes

Just open your eyes

And see that life is beautiful

Will you swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral

Alive

Just open your eyes

Just open your eyes

And see that life is beautiful

Will you swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral

Just open your eyes

Just open your eyes

And see that life is beautiful

Will you swear on your life that no one will cry at my funeral

The Stones got it right, you know..

Of course, the last post wouldn't be so 'complete' without the mandatory song of longing from the Stones:

"I've Been Loving You Too Long" (cover of Otis Redding) by Rolling Stones

I've been loving you too long to stop now

There were tied and you want to be free

My love is growing stronger, as you become a haven to me

Oh I've been loving you a little too long

I dont wanna stop now, oh

With you my life,

Has been so wonderful

I can't stop now

There were times and your love is growing cold

My love is growing stronger as our affair grows old

I've been loving you a little too long, long,

I don't want to stop now

oh, oh, oh

I've been loving you a little bit too long

I don't wanna stop now

No, no, no

Don't make me stop now

No baby

I'm down on my knees

Please, don't make me stop now

I love you, I love you,

I love you with all of my heart

And I can't stop now

Don't make me stop now

Please, please don't make me stop now

Good god of mine]I love you

I love you, I love you, I love you

I love you, I love you

I love you in so many different ways...

I love you in so many different ways....

Brilliant Song.

Paul Westerberg, The Replacements' lead singer, rockin out as usual:

You're getting married - Paul Westerberg

You're like a guitar in the hands

of a man that just can't play

You're like an inmate countin' off the days

You're like a student on vacation

That's waitin' for school to resume

Like a flower in the dark,

Never gonna bloom

You're getting married

You're getting married

You're getting married--oh no...

Well, you say that you'll both be real happy

You forgot to tell your eyes

You're like a bird in a cage

Watchin' the flock fly on by

You're like a student who's on vacation

Just waitin' for school to start

I don't know what's in it for you,

But it ain't in your heart...

You're getting married

You're getting married

You're getting married--oh no..oh no...

You're like a guitar in the hands

of some fool that just can't play

You're like an inmate countin' off the days

Well, you say that you'll both be happy

Hey, you forgot to tell your eyes

You're like a bird in a cage

Watchin' the flock fly on by

You're like a student on vacation

Just waitin' for school to resume

You're like a flower in the dark,

You ain't never gonna bloom

If you get married

If you get married

Don't you get married

No, no, no no...

Lean on me...

What a beautiful, beautiful song...

"Restless" by Langhorne Slim

i felt restless and i felt soft

didn't know anymore who I was ripping off

the packed in picnic lacked seriously on food

had more wine than i knew what with to do.

i just dont know what it is

i just dont know what it is

to be free

to hold and have somebody lean on me

can blame it on your teachers

you can blame it on the weather

can blame it on how your mother and your father didn't stick together

someday darlin its got to make sense in your head

can't make up your mind till you wake up and make your bed

and

i just don't know what it is

i just don't know what it is

to be free

to hold and have somebody lean on me

one day i felt so good nothing could bring me down

next morning i awoke i was plastered to the ground

whistle your favorite tune when it's all said and done

if your maker dont approve at least you know you've had your fun

and i just dont know what it is

just dont know what it is

to be free

to hold and have somebody

to be free

to go out singing in the rain

to be free

to believe completely in somebody

to be free

to let love win again

A song can teach you so much

Heard this wonderful song "Let me out" by Ben's Brother. Something got my attention:

"I'd rather be wandering hungry and homeless

Than here in the warmth of a silent defeat"

Amen to that.

"Creep"

Wow. Check out these lyrics. It's amazing how much a song can say in a few lines.

"Creep" by Radiohead

When you were here before
Couldn't look you in the eye
You're just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry
You float like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You're so fucking special

But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice when I'm not around
You're so fucking special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell I'm doing here?
I don't belong here

She's running out the door
She's running out
She runs runs runs

Whatever makes you happy
Whatever you want
You're so fucking special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here
I don't belong here

Mr. Brightside

Reminds me of the good ole painful days... Heartbreak, thou art a bitch :) - Enjoy!

Mr. Brightside
by The Killers

I'm coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss

Now I’m falling asleep
And she’s calling a cab
While he’s having a smoke
And she’s taking a drag
Now they’re going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his—chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go

I just can’t look its killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
‘Cause I’m Mr Brightside

I’m coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss

Now I’m falling asleep
And she’s calling a cab
While he’s having a smoke
And she’s taking a drag
Now they’re going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his—chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go

I just can’t look its killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibi
But it’s just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
‘Cause I’m Mr Brightside

I never...
I never...
I never...
